Estates & Wills: a will and a pen on the firm's desk

An estate proceeding (sucesión) is the legal procedure through which our attorneys advise and represent heirs in carrying out the legal division of a loved one's assets.

Until it is done, whatever remained in your loved one's name cannot be sold or transferred. We look for the fastest and most economical route in notary fees, taxes and registration costs.

How the process works

  1. 01

    Inventory of assets

We list the assets, debts and rights the person had at the time of death.

  2. 02

    Identification of heirs

We identify the legal heirs or those named in the will, if there is one.

  3. 03

    Settlement of debts

We review the debts, because, just like the assets, they are shared among the heirs.

  4. 04

    Distribution of assets

The assets are allocated to the heirs according to their agreement, the law or the will.

Two paths for an estate proceeding

At a notary office

If all heirs agree. It is usually shorter and less costly. Approximate time: 1 to 2 months.

In court

If the heirs do not agree. It depends on the court and can take a year or more.

Wills

A will is the legal act through which our attorneys advise and support people in planning and distributing their assets, according to their wishes and current legal provisions. It provides legal certainty and clarity, protects your assets and your beneficiaries' rights, and allows you to set down your last wishes and ensure their later legal fulfillment and execution.
